Species 2000

The goal of the Species 2000 project is to create a validated checklist of all the world's species (plants, animals, fungi and microbes).  This is being achieved by bringing together an array of global species databases covering each of the major groups of organisms.
The programme in partnership with the Integrated Taxonomic Information system (ITIS) of North America currently produces the Catalogue of Life.  This is used by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and Encyclopedia of Life (EoL) as the taxonomic backbone to their web portals.

Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) was established by governments in 2001 to encourage free and open access to biodiversity data, via the Internet. Through a global network of 57 countries and 47 organizations, GBIF promotes and facilitates the mobilization, access, discovery and use of information about the occurrence of organisms over time and across the planet.

African Rodentia

The extensive African Rodentia specimen and tissue collections of the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA), the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) and the University of Antwerp (UA) provide taxonomical, ecological, geographical and genetic information, as well as measurements and data on parasitic and viral infections. The website provides an advanced search function, which allows you to access all the information we about every specimen, family, genus and species in the database.

Fishbase

FishBase is a relational database with information to cater to different professionals such as research scientists, fisheries managers, zoologists and many more.  FishBase on the web contains practically all fish species known to science.

Flore d'Afrique Centrale online

This online flora provides access to all published volumes of the Flore d' Afrique Centrale. It covers about 6,000 vascular plant taxa from the Democratic Republic Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.
